Doug Jones Is Already Siding With President Trump After Defeating Roy Moore

Last week was pretty disastrous for the Republican Party. They saw their Senate majority drop to only 51, received news about the potential retirement from the Speaker of the House, had one of the most prominent members hospitalized for a deadly brain tumor, etc.

With so much going wrong for the party, there’s no question the GOP could use some good news. Surprisingly, they just received a little respite, and the source of it is very surprising.

As reported at the New York Post, the liberal Democrat that defeated Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race on Tuesday is already breaking ranks with his party on the very issue that allowed him to win.

Unlike his fellow leftists, Jones refused to call for Trump to step down due to the various sexual harassment charges against him.

I don’t think that the president ought to resign at this point,” Jones (D-Ala.) told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

This was Jones’ first national television appearance since the stunning upset in Alabama, and he made it clear that he doesn’t want to let the allegations against Trump get in the way of what he called “real issues.”

I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues,” Jones added. “Let’s get on with the real issues that are facing the people of this country right now.

This stance is in direct conflict with other high-profile leftists, who’ve now made it their mission to oust Trump based on the evidence-less accusations against him.

Jones went pretty far in dismissing the issue altogether, highlighting the fact that the claims against Trump were around during the campaign, and yet he was still elected.

Those allegations were made and he was elected president of the United States,” Jones said. “I think the American people spoke.”

Jones said he’s willing to work with Republicans on passing some of Trump’s priorities like infrastructure investment and added that the pending allegations are no reason to get not work with the president and get on his bad side.

We need to move on and try to work with some real issues that are facing the country and not worry about getting at odds with the president any more than we have to,” Jones said.

It’ll be very interesting to see if Jones sticks with his comments, or if phone calls from other party members have him making the media rounds in the days to come to “clarify” what he really meant. Wandering off the Left’s script is very dangerous for politicians, especially greenhorns like Jones. Regardless of how this plays out, Jones was pretty gutsy say what he did Sunday, and it’s about the best thing you could have hoped to come out of a liberal politician’s mouth.
